What is the skin microbiome?

Your skin hosts a community of bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms that sit on top of the barrier and help regulate it. When that community is balanced, skin holds moisture, calms itself down quickly and tolerates the world. When it is disrupted — by over-cleansing, harsh actives, fragrance, stress, hard water or illness — the barrier weakens and skin starts reacting to things it used to handle without complaint.

Why we use all three: prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics

They do different jobs, and most ranges only use one. Prebiotics feed the beneficial bacteria already on your skin. Probiotics introduce beneficial strains during formulation. Postbiotics are what those bacteria produce when they ferment an ingredient — the peptides, acids and enzymes your skin can use directly. Using all three supports the microbiome at every stage rather than at one.

What bio-fermentation actually does

Bio-fermentation uses live cultures to break natural raw materials down into smaller, more usable molecules. Our licorice root, papaya, pineapple and aloe vera are all fermented with Lactobacillus before they reach the bottle — you can see them in the ingredient lists as Lactobacillus/Carica Papaya fruit ferment and its siblings. The cultures become inactive after fermentation, which is why the products are shelf-stable and never need refrigerating.

Formulated and trialled in Australia

Every formula is developed by experienced biochemists in an Australian lab and trialled on 50 participants aged 25 to 55 over three to six weeks. Everything is fragrance-free, vegan, cruelty-free, non-comedogenic, and free of the ingredients on our Nothing Possibly Problematic™ list.
